One little fellow, still learning to read, needed a little prompting on his verse. So his teacher, sitting on the front row, helped him by saying a few words, then waiting for him to repeat it. It went like this:
Teacher:
“First John 4:19.” Child: “First John 4:19”
Teacher:
“We love Him…” Child: “We love Him…”
Teacher:
“…because He first loved us.” Child: “…because He first loved us.”
And then, because the little boy was hesitant about standing in front of the congregation in the first place, and in order to encourage him and praise him for his efforts, the teacher said, “Wonderful.” And the little boy said, “Wonderful.”
We all laughed, but it made us stop and think. Not to add anything to the Word of God, of course, but what we heard that day was ...
“We love Him because He first loved us. Wonderful!”
Isn’t the love of God toward us truly “wonderful”? Isn’t the love of God toward us truly “wonder-full”?
