Wow! What a revival!
I’ve been in a few revivals in my lifetime where we saw many people saved, and several others recommit themselves to a fresh, deeper walk with Jesus. But this one topped all previous experience in my life. A few weeks ago I told you that I believed this revival was going to be “historical.” Perhaps you’ve never heard that word used to describe a revival before, and perhaps you didn’t quite understand what I meant. You do now, though, don’t you? But I want to make sure that no one misses how big this was. Follow along with me. I believe this revival was historical for the following reasons: (1) Decisions. The exact number is still uncertain, because I am following up with as many of them as possible. We did see more people come to receive Christ than we have in a long, long time. In fact, several who have been here a lot longer than we have tell me that they cannot recall a revival where there were that many decisions for Christ. (2) Prayer. Thanks to the leadership of our Prayer Team, we had several cottage prayer meetings that were well-attended and well-led. (3) Burden. We seemed to have more of a burden for lost and unchurched people leading up to this revival than we have previously. That made a big difference. (4) Attendance. Thank you for your faithfulness! Every service was packed, with very few empty seats. You not only invited people, but you were here yourself–and that made a huge difference. (5) Choir. It’s hard to explain, but there’s just something about a choir loft that is full of exuberant, expectant singers that adds so much to any service. (6) Spirit. There is a wonderful atmosphere of Christ’s love in our church, and I saw it extended to guests over and over during the week. (7) Love Offering. The love offering for our guest evangelists was $6000, divided 50/50 between them. Never in our entire history have we given so large an offering during revival. So thank you, Utica Baptist Church. You made me proud to be called your pastor this week–but most of all, I believe our Heavenly Father was well-pleased with your commitment, your prayers, your sacrifice, your service and your love. Sharon and I love you from the bottom of our hearts.
